Ain’t you sorry you asked?
My Peace Corps country director, Miz Sonia, we call her, told me she is constantly asked my media and government officials, ”What is the greatest challenge to volunteers working in the Philippines?” She likes my way with words, so she asked if I would write up a little paragraph response for her. I gave her 4 pages single spaced! She said, holy cow I had no idea! Maybe I ghost write for Hillary Clinton next.
Being a Peace Corps volunteer is a little like being a problem-dogged astronaut aboard the Apollo 13 spacecraft who’s faced with the need to make mission-critical repairs using only the items already on board. And so the PCV finds he must succeed using only the paper clips, pipe cleaners and duct tape he brought from home. Whether we as PCVs will succeed depends entirely upon how much we value the mission. And I think I speak for all PCVs in the field when I tell you – it’s the moon or bust.
