Another Cultural Oddity
Another cultural oddity: Men and women both wear their nails filed to a point like a damn chicken claw! And paint them some dayglo orange or lime color.
I went recently on a courtesy call to a local jail where my foundation asked some of us volunteers to teach some lifeskills to the female inmates. (Though it would have been interesting if the inmates taught the volunteers a few survival skills instead.) We arrived to meet the warden, a great strapping young Marlon Brando type who was dismantling a jeep engine while several admiring inmates looked on. He was built like a refrigerator, masculinity dripping from every pore. Yet I noticed an anomaly that he had perfectly groomed fingernails lacquered a lovely shade of lilac, on petal-soft hands! It doesn’t matter to me what he does to his fingernails, but it was just unexpected and out of character I would have thought.
