Just Wanna Have Fun

At a workshop yesterday on arts in therapy and learning, I took out some native Ifugao percussion instruments (drums and bamboo do-dads you can bang on the floor and beat on with sticks) that I bought at a mountain university museum and demonstrated an “eagle” dance that I had seen at the Ifugao village I visited recently.  Of course, I am no expert, just having fun, but we got everyone in on the action.

We finished up with the hully gully to the Peanut Butter song. A typical Peace Corps style hootenanny I guess you could call it. I’m having a load of fun. (Yes i guess my photos show it.) I’m afraid not really doing much “serious” work but maybe I won’t.  I’ve worked hard all my life and now I just want to be creative and play with kids. If the Peace Corps gets tired of me doing those things I guess I’ll be on my way home soon!

I’m looking into getting grants to start a puppetry program. I found plans for a puppet theater on an Eagle Scout website that you can make out of pvc pipe. And also a “low ropes” course that consists of planks for walking, climbing and playing games on. I’ts a little different from just playground equipment since its designed for specific types of team building games such as trust falls, group climbing and rapelling, as well as rope swings and stuff just for fun and exercise. Kind of stuff every kid should be issued at birth and installed in his back yard!
