Puppets

The landlords pet Daschund had four puppies this morning. They look like mice. She is kept in a cage all the time and never let out, so how she got pregnant remains a mystery to me.

Funny, I just finished the puppets for “How Much Is That Doggie in the Window” to teach tomorrow. It’s so much fun to be making puppets again! I used to make them for my kids. I forgot how much fun it is to create these little characters. Everyone here is nutty over puppets but they only see them on TV. I found a puppetry group in Manila that is sort of big time- kinda like the Muppets maybe, but no one ever gets to see them in person. They are astounded that you can make something out of a popsickle stick and call it a puppet. Novel idea in these parts.

Above handpuppets I made for The Emperors New Clothes (Emperor wearing “invisible” fine robes; two robbers posing as “weavers”, dog and child who at the end of the tale unselfconsciously reveals the truth that no grownup in the story can acknowledge): “But the emperor isn’t wearing any clothes!”
